# Introduction

> What the Sayless public API covers, and how this reference is organized.

The Sayless public API is a curated HTTP API for the work graph: conversations, messages, tickets, companies, contacts, documents, teams, attachments, and outbound webhooks.

Integrations authenticate with a personal API key (`sl_api_…`) or an OAuth access token (`sl_oat_…`), including app-actor tokens from client credentials. The official web app uses a cookie session and is not an integration path.

## How this reference is organized

Start with the pages in this group, then open a resource.

| Page | What it covers |
| - | - |
| [Making requests](/api-reference/making-requests) | POST action routes, bodies, and mutation payloads |
| [Authentication](/developers/authentication) | API keys, OAuth user tokens, and app actors |
| [Scopes](/api-reference/scopes) | Coarse scopes and per-resource scopes |
| [Errors](/api-reference/errors) | Error envelope and `error.type` |
| [Pagination](/api-reference/pagination) | Cursor pages on list routes |
| [Rate limits](/api-reference/rate-limits) | Limits and retry behavior |

Resource groups below that (Tickets, Conversations, Companies, and so on) are generated from the OpenAPI document. Each operation page shows the request body, response, and a playground.

## What stays in the product

Billing, channel connect wizards, broadcasts, triggers, analytics, the customer portal admin, and the client sync protocol are session-only. They are not part of this API.
